Celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday by trying 52 different sports

As a way of celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday, the city of Lethbridge, Alberta is giving its citizens a chance to try 52 different sports in 52 weeks.

And it’s all free.

After registering to participate, there will be a new activity every week for people to try. Already this year participants have played ice hockey, lacrosse, and sledge hockey.

The Lethbridge Boxing Club is hosting participants on January 31st.

All that in the first month of 2017.

The “Get active through sport” initiative is being coordinated by the Lethbridge Sport Council.

Playing many different sports and being involved with lots of different physical activities is one key to developing physical literacy.

It’s also a great way to discover new ways of being active and having fun. Until you try badminton, how else can you realize that you love it?

If you don’t live in Lethbridge, there are other ways to give you and your kids a chance to try different sports through programs like SportBall, UBC’s Active Kids program, and at your local recreation centre.
