Role Model Spotlight: Travis Gerrits
Among our Active for Life Role Models, we have some incredible elite athletes. Travis Gerrits is an aerial ski jumper who spends most of his days upside down doing flips in the air.
Travis is a great role model because in his own words, “I love to embrace the incredible opportunities life throws at us and aspire to find the abnormal in an average day.” We love the endless capacity he has for fun and adventure and know that he will inspire kids and help them understand that risky play begins in your own backyard.
Q&A with Travis Gerrits
AfL: What is your biggest fear?
Travis Gerrits: Drowning
AfL: What is your proudest moment?
TG: Representing my family, community, and country at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
AfL: What is your favourite way to spend time with your family?
TG: My family and I always spend a day on the golf course whenever I am home.
AfL: What is your favourite season?
TG: Fall to me is the time where my summer training has come to an end; the weather is crisp yet comfortable and winter is soon on its way.
AfL: What is your favourite physical activity?
TG: I absolutely love aerials, but my favourite physical activity outside of skiing would be golf.
AfL: Some other little known fact about you that you’d like to share?
TG: My brother Tyler and I were avid skiers as kids, but were never members of a ski club, so we decided to call ourselves the Back Yard Boys as we both had started skiing in our own backyard.
AfL: Please tell us in a few words why you’re excited to be an AfL Role Model.
TG: Becoming an AfL Role Model truly fits with my philosophy. An active lifestyle is not only something that I have experienced since early childhood, but something that I encourage kids and adults alike to take part in on a daily basis.
