Get ready, Canada, for the Women’s World Cup
Go, Canada, go.
So often we’re saying that while waving the maple leaf in support of a bunch of women and men who are taking to the ice. Starting this weekend, though, we’ll be cheering for the stalwart soccer team that fills us with pride.
Led by captain Christine Sinclair, the Women’s National Team kicks off the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 (WWCC) with a game against China this Saturday in Edmonton.
The squad didn’t do so well in the last Women’s World Cup, losing all three games in the group stage in Germany. They rallied the following year at the London Olympic Games, winning a bronze medal.
More recently, the team placed second in the 2015 Cyprus Cup, behind England.

In the coming weeks we’ll be watching the games, and we’ve got some great soccer stories to share with you, including interviews with members of the Women’s National Team and articles and photos from team members.
And if you’re not already playing soccer with your kids, get on that. It’s so easy to do. As Kara Lang, former member of the Women’s National Team and official ambassador of the WWCC, told us last year, playing soccer “helped me develop confidence and self-esteem. It taught me to set goals at a young age. And it gave me a chance to dream, to aspire to things that were pretty huge.”
In the meantime, here are Active for Life’s top five soccer stories:
