
Encourage a girl, increase her physical activity
We want all Canadian kids to develop physical literacy and stay active for life, but motivating both boys and girls to participate in sport and activity isn’t a cookie-cutter process. In sport environments, girls receive less encouragement and have less confidence compared to boys their own age.
A new study in the Archives of Disease in Children reports girls are not reaching their daily physical activity requirements. When compared to boys, girls have fallen behind almost 30%.

There’s no shortage of statistics on kids’ lack of physical activity, but this one particularly shocked us: Only 11 percent of girls ages 5 to 8 get the recommended hour a day of physical activity, compared with 42 percent of boys, according to a new study in the Archives of Disease in Childhood.
