Active for Life podcast: Camilla Knight on parents in sport
Camilla Knight is an associate professor in sports psychology at Swansea University in Wales, United Kingdom, and she is an expert in youth sport. One of her key research interests is in understanding the role that parents play in the lives of their young athletes.
Camilla is also a cofounder of Parents in Sport Week, originated by the UK’s Child Protection in Sport Unit and sponsored by Active for Life in Canada, which provides an opportunity to talk about being a healthy sport parent.
In 2017, Camilla was back in Alberta – she completed her PhD at the University of Alberta – talking about parents in sport at an event hosted by the Alberta Sport Connection. Our editor-in-chief, Richard Monette, sat down with Camilla to talk about the different adults involved in youth sport: parents, coaches, and club administrators.
As Camilla tells Richard, “It’s complicated.”
